Conservation Tourism in the Amazon

Travel that contributes to biodiversity, science and the people who call the Amazon home

At Amazon Emotions, we believe tourism can do more than minimize its impact. When thoughtfully designed, it can actively contribute to protecting biodiversity, strengthening local communities and expanding our understanding of the rainforest.

This philosophy shapes the way we create every journey. From scientific partnerships and Citizen Science to community-based experiences and locally sourced ingredients, we seek to connect travel with initiatives that create lasting value for the places and people we visit.

Travel with a Positive Purpose

Every journey is an opportunity to contribute to the future of the Amazon.

Our approach to responsible travel begins with a simple principle: tourism should contribute positively to the destinations where it takes place.

We work with researchers, conservation organizations, Indigenous and riverside communities, local guides and producers to create experiences that connect travelers more deeply with the Amazon while supporting initiatives dedicated to its long-term protection.

Rather than separating tourism from conservation, we believe the two can work together.

Conservation Through Science

Connecting travelers, researchers and the rainforest.

Scientific knowledge is essential to understanding and protecting one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth.

Through partnerships with researchers and scientific institutions, Amazon Emotions supports biodiversity research and environmental monitoring in areas where we operate.

These collaborations also create opportunities for our guests to understand the rainforest beyond what can be seen during a journey, discovering the ecological relationships, species and scientific questions that shape the Amazon.

Conservation-focused travel in the Brazilian Amazon

Become a Citizen Scientist

Turn observation into knowledge.

Our guests are invited to become active observers of the rainforest.

With the guidance of naturalists, wildlife observations can be documented through Citizen Science platforms such as iNaturalist, helping create biodiversity records that may contribute to a broader understanding of species distribution in the Amazon.

A photograph taken during a forest walk or wildlife excursion can therefore become more than a travel memory. It can become part of a growing record of Amazonian biodiversity.

Wildlife Survey & Monitoring

Helping reveal the life of the rainforest.

Much of the Amazon’s wildlife remains hidden from human eyes.

Camera traps, field observations and biodiversity monitoring help researchers document species and better understand how wildlife uses different rainforest habitats.

Where appropriate, guests can learn about these monitoring methods alongside naturalists and researchers, gaining a deeper perspective on the extraordinary biodiversity surrounding them.

Where tourism, science and conservation meet.

Amazon Nexus is the conservation and science initiative of Amazon Emotions, created to strengthen the connection between tourism, biodiversity research and environmental protection.

Through scientific partnerships, biodiversity monitoring, Citizen Science and field-based research, the initiative helps transform the places where we operate into opportunities for learning and conservation.

It also creates a bridge between travelers and scientists, allowing the experience of visiting the Amazon to contribute to a deeper understanding of the rainforest.

Working with the Peoples of the Forest

Meaningful encounters begin with respect.

The Amazon is not only one of the world’s richest ecosystems. It is also home to Indigenous peoples and riverside communities whose cultures, knowledge and ways of life have been shaped by the rainforest and its rivers for generations.

Our community experiences are developed through direct partnerships and dialogue with the people who live in the territories we visit.

Whenever possible, communities help determine what they wish to share, how experiences are conducted and how tourism can contribute to locally defined priorities.

For our guests, this creates encounters based not simply on observation, but on listening, exchange and mutual respect.

Tourism that Strengthens Local Economies

Keeping the value of tourism within the Amazon.

The positive impact of tourism also depends on where its economic benefits remain.

Whenever possible, Amazon Emotions works with local guides, boat crews, cooks, artisans, producers and community partners, helping ensure that tourism creates opportunities within the destinations where our journeys take place.

By strengthening local supply chains and valuing regional knowledge and skills, travel can become an additional source of income while supporting greater local participation in the tourism economy.

Local Ingredients, Local Knowledge

The flavors of the Amazon are part of its cultural heritage.

Food offers another way to understand the rainforest.

Our menus celebrate regional ingredients, seasonal produce, Amazonian fish, tropical fruits, native herbs and recipes connected to the culinary traditions of the region.

Whenever possible, ingredients are sourced locally, supporting producers while allowing guests to discover the extraordinary relationship between biodiversity, culture and Amazonian cuisine.

Every meal becomes another way to experience the territory.

Lower-Impact Journeys

Thoughtful choices matter in sensitive environments.

Operating in remote natural environments brings responsibility.

Across our journeys and accommodations, we continually seek ways to reduce unnecessary waste, limit single-use plastics, use resources responsibly and adopt solutions appropriate to each location.

Our small-scale approach is intentional. Smaller groups allow for more personalized experiences while helping us manage our presence more carefully in sensitive natural and cultural environments.

For us, comfort and environmental responsibility should evolve together.

Every Journey Leaves a Positive Impact

Travel can become part of something larger.

We believe the most meaningful journeys change the way we understand a place.

By connecting travelers with naturalists, scientists, local communities and conservation initiatives, we hope every Amazon Emotions experience creates something that continues long after the journey ends: greater knowledge, deeper respect and a stronger connection with the Amazon.

Because protecting the rainforest begins with understanding its value — and recognizing the people, knowledge and biodiversity that make it extraordinary.
