Amazon Trek Expedition: An Authentic Journey into the Rio Negro

Begin an unforgettable journey into the Amazon with expert indigenous guides who share their ancestral wisdom. The Amazon Trek Expedition blends rainforest adventure with cultural immersion, offering travelers a rare chance to connect with both nature and people. Inspired by our renowned Pico da Neblina Expedition, this shorter version captures the same spirit through authentic encounters, shared knowledge, and breathtaking landscapes. You can also add it as a pre- or post-extension to the Rainforest Private Refuge or the Manakin Riverboat.

The Experience

Our Amazon Trek Expedition immerses you in the cultures, communities, and biodiversity of the Rio Negro. Traveling in a small group gives flexibility, intimacy, and meaningful interactions with local guides.

The Lower Rio Negro is one of the most fascinating regions in the Amazon. Its dark waters sustain pink river dolphins, while the riverbanks shelter countless bird species, mammals, and reptiles. Indigenous communities—including the Tucano, Tatuyo, Puinave, Desano, Wanano, and Cubeo—still thrive here, preserving their traditions and ways of life.

Each day offers moderate hikes, riverside camping, and nights in community-run lodges. Instead of large hotels, we partner with family or community-owned establishments. This ensures tourism supports local livelihoods while giving travelers an authentic experience.

Community-based tourism is more than an activity. It is a partnership that sustains families, protects traditions, and preserves one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth.

Physical Requirements

This trek is moderate to difficult. Most hikes last two to five hours, though some can extend to eight hours. Trails are uneven, humid, and sometimes steep. You should be prepared for hot days, sudden rain, and long hours outdoors.

Mornings often start before sunrise, with dinners served after sundown. Camps change by season, so adaptability is key. The journey is demanding, yet paced to include all participants. Local guides provide constant safety and support.

Jungle-to-Table Experience

Food is central to the Amazon Trek Expedition. Each meal links you to the land and its people. Cassava, plantains, fresh river fish, and wild herbs form the base of traditional recipes. Sharing meals in the forest or with local families transforms dining into cultural exchange, offering flavors unique to the Amazon.
