In 2024, I had the profound honor of opening the Adventure NEXT event in Costa Rica as a speaker, delving into a topic that resonates deeply with me: “Embracing the Emotional Depth of Travel.” Organized by the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA), the event was more than a professional milestone—it was an invitation to reflect on the transformative power of travel, both as a traveler and as someone who creates journeys for others.
Standing on that stage, surrounded by a community of explorers, storytellers, and visionaries, I spoke about the profound growth that emerges when we step beyond the boundaries of conventional tourism. Travel, approached with openness and intention, is a powerful tool for connection. It unites us with unfamiliar cultures, awe-inspiring landscapes, and, most importantly, the deepest parts of ourselves.
Costa Rica served as a stunning backdrop for this message. Its vibrant natural beauty and unwavering commitment to sustainability set the stage for meaningful conversations about how travel can inspire empathy, foster awareness, and catalyze emotional transformation. Beyond the conference, I ventured into its rich culture, engaging with local communities and experiencing firsthand the harmony that exists between people and nature.
Reflecting on this journey, I couldn’t help but draw parallels with my own story—how my life in the Amazon rainforest began as a personal quest and evolved into something much greater.
When I first decided to immerse myself in the Amazon, it was out of a desire to truly understand this extraordinary region, its people, and its way of life. The landscapes, culture, and gastronomy of the rainforest transformed me in ways I could never have imagined. It was only when I felt ready to share this profound transformation with others that I knew it was time to launch my tourism venture. And so, Amazon Emotions was born—not as a business, but as a deeply personal invitation to explore the same wonders that had reshaped my life.
Before opening my doors to travelers, I embarked on my own journey through the Amazon. I lived alongside local communities, learned their rhythms, and embraced their ways of thinking. I spent years discovering the delicate balance of crafting itineraries that honored both the authenticity of the Amazon and the needs of the modern traveler.
The moment I welcomed my first guests was unforgettable. At that time, I was still living in what is now known as the Private Refuge, my family’s home nestled in the heart of the rainforest. My children were young, and together, we turned our home into a sanctuary for curious travelers. They helped me set the table, decorate rooms, and prepare for each new visitor. Slowly but surely, our humble beginnings became something more—an emblem of intimate, meaningful travel experiences in the Amazon.

Today, I recognize that one of the greatest challenges lies in finding the right language to convey to the tourism industry the evolving desires of travelers who seek these types of experiences. There is a rising demand for journeys with purpose—ones that not only create unique and memorable moments but also leave a positive impact on both people and places.
Reflecting on this journey, I’ve come to understand that travel is about so much more than seeing the world; it’s about truly feeling it. It’s about having the courage to let a place transform you and the responsibility to honor that transformation by sharing its stories with others. Standing in Costa Rica and sharing these insights, I realized that my work is simply an extension of this personal journey—one I hope inspires others to explore the emotional depth of their own travels.
As Amazon Emotions continues to grow, my mission remains unchanged: to connect travelers with the beauty, simplicity, and transformative power of the Amazon, crafting meaningful journeys that leave lasting impressions.
I have always believed that true luxury isn’t defined by material comforts—it’s about having the time to embrace silence, to savor the present moment, to delight in the simplicity of life, and to engage in heartfelt conversations with people who are eager to share their stories. It’s in these moments of genuine connection and stillness that the essence of meaningful travel comes alive.
