Founder of Amazon Emotions

Naturalist • Conservation Advocate • Expedition Leader

A life shaped by the rainforest.

Some people discover the Amazon.

Others dedicate their lives to understanding and protecting it.

For Vanessa Marino, the Amazon has been both home and inspiration for more than two decades.

Vanessa Marino

Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Vanessa studied graphic design before embarking on an extraordinary two-year overland journey across Latin America with a group of artists and environmental educators. The expedition took her from Mexico to Tierra del Fuego and, in 1998, to the Brazilian Amazon for the first time.

What began as a visit soon became a lifelong commitment.

Captivated by the rainforest, its wildlife and the people who call it home, Vanessa chose to build her life in the Amazon. In 2000, she settled in Presidente Figueiredo, where she founded a bespoke ecotourism company that would later evolve into Amazon Emotions.

A Vision That Became Amazon Emotions

Amazon Emotions was born from a simple belief:

Travel should create lasting memories for travelers while generating lasting benefits for nature and local communities.

This philosophy continues to guide every expedition, partnership and conservation initiative developed by the company today.

Beyond Tourism

From the very beginning, Vanessa believed that travel could be much more than sightseeing.

Her vision was to create journeys that inspire curiosity, deepen connections with nature and contribute directly to conservation.

Today, that philosophy shapes every Amazon Emotions journey, combining carefully curated itineraries, expert naturalist guidance, meaningful partnerships with Indigenous and riverside communities, and a strong commitment to protecting biodiversity.

For Vanessa, the greatest luxury is not simply visiting extraordinary places, but leaving them better understood and better protected.

A Life in the Field

Much of Vanessa’s work happens far from offices and meeting rooms.

Whether navigating the Rio Negro, hiking rainforest trails, documenting wildlife or working alongside local communities, she believes that genuine knowledge comes from time spent in the field.

Over the years, she has planned and led expeditions across some of the Brazilian Amazon’s most remote regions, including complex journeys to Pico da Neblina, Brazil’s highest mountain, in close partnership with the Yanomami people.

These experiences have reinforced a simple belief:

The Amazon is best understood through patience, respect and meaningful relationships with the people who know it best.

Only years spent in the rainforest.

Conservation Through Travel

Conservation has always been at the heart of Vanessa’s work.

It has always been its foundation.

Through Amazon Emotions, she actively promotes tourism as a force for biodiversity conservation, scientific research and community development.

The company collaborates with researchers, supports Citizen Science initiatives and develops experiences that encourage travelers to become active participants in understanding and protecting the rainforest.

Every journey is designed to create a positive impact that extends far beyond the experience itself.

Sharing the Amazon With the World

Vanessa is also an international speaker, writer and storyteller.

She has presented at global tourism events including AdventureELEVATE, AdventureNEXT, World Travel Market, and The New York Times Travel Show, advocating for tourism that creates lasting benefits for nature and local communities.

Her work has been featured by publications such as National Geographic Travel, Forbes and Der Spiegel, while Amazon Emotions has received international recognition for its innovative approach to conservation and responsible tourism.

Rather than celebrating awards, Vanessa sees these achievements as opportunities to inspire a more thoughtful and regenerative way of exploring the world.

Recognition

Her work and the philosophy behind Amazon Emotions have been recognized internationally through publications, conferences and responsible tourism awards, reflecting a long-term commitment to conservation and meaningful travel.

A Philosophy That Guides Every Journey

For Vanessa, the Amazon is not simply a destination.

It is a living ecosystem deserving understanding, respect and protection.

That philosophy continues to shape every experience created by Amazon Emotions, inviting travelers to see the rainforest not only through its extraordinary landscapes, but through the people, wildlife and stories that make it one of the most remarkable places on Earth.

“The greatest journeys are not measured by the places we visit, but by the connections we create and the legacy we leave behind.”
